The Masked Singer is back this weekend with the eight remaining Masked Singer 2023 contestants taking to the stage for another performance. One of those characters is Phoenix.

So far, Phoenix has managed to keep their identity hidden from the judges, but fans think they might have sussed out who's behind the mask.

In an exclusive RadioTimes.com poll, The Masked Singer viewers predicted that Phoenix is a Doctor Who star – but it seems they've missed a huge clue.

While most think David Tennant could be behind the bird costume, there are other clues which appear to show the character is actually Ricky Wilson.

Our Associate Editor Helen Daly highlighted a 'Doctor Who audition tape' posted by the Kaiser Chiefs, where the frontman is seen hilariously pretending to be the Doctor.

Ricky Wilson, is that you behind the mask?

We won't know for sure until The Masked Singer's Phoenix takes off their mask. In the meantime, read on for all the latest clues around their identity.

The Masked Singer season 4 theories

Is Phoenix David Tennant?

Jonathan Ross noted that Phoenix walks in a similar manner to David Tennant, and Masked Singer fans seem to have got on board with his suggestion.

After all, the references to reincarnation in Phoenix's VT could be a nod to his role in Doctor Who, which Tennant is set to reprise later this year, while the nod to investigation could be a link to his character in Broadchurch, DI Alec Hardy.

However, it's been a busy few months for Tennant recently, with the star working on new episodes of Doctor Who as well as starring in a play in the West End - could he really have squeezed in a stint moonlighting as a singing Phoenix?

We'll have to wait for more clues to be revealed later in the season in order to make a more educated guess at just who is hiding in this feathery outfit.

While many believe David Tennant could be behind the mask of Phoenix, it looks like they have missed a big clue which actually suggests musician Ricky Wilson is the celeb.

Our Associate Editor Helen Daly pointed out this clip which shows the Kaiser Chiefs star pretending to be the Doctor, and fans are in agreement.

"Phoenix is Ricky Wilson. One of their albums had a stick of rock on the cover, they're named after a football team, and I'm fairly sure he was in War of the Worlds at one point," one viewer wrote.
